Logging in

Type “/wp-admin/” after the URL: http://bannerfurniture.com/wp-admin/. Then log in.

You will arrive at the WordPress Dashboard. Everything you will edit is either in “Pages” or “Posts”.

Home page

To change the images that appear at random on the homepage, click “Pages” on the left menu. To remove an image, hover over the row and click the “minus” on the right edge. To add an image, click the blue button at the bottom that says “Add Image”. When you are done, press the blue button “Update” in the right column.

You are able to edit the content in the draggable info box on the homepage.

Story

To edit the “Story” section, go to “Pages”, then “Story”.

Collections

1) Creating a new collection

To create a new collection, go to “Posts” and then click “Categories” in the submenu. Insert the Name and the Slug. Make sure to select “Collections” as the Parent in the dropdown menu. There is no need to enter a Description, as it’s not used for anything here. Click “Add New Category” when you’re done.

Then, immediately go to “Pages” and click “Add New Page” in the submenu. Insert the name of the collection again as the title. Then, in the “Page Attributes” section of the right menu, select “Collections” as the Parent from the first dropdown, and select “– Single Collection” as the Template from the second dropdown. After you do this, fields will appear in the main area. Select the name of the collection from the Category Association dropdown. After that, upload the Collection Image and add a Description that will appear on hover on the main /collections page. When you’re done, press the blue “Publish” button in the right column.

2) Adding items to a collection

To add an item to the collection you just created or an existing collection, go to “Posts” and click “Add new” in the submenu. Enter the title of the item. Then, from the “Categories” section of the right menu, check the boxes “Collections” and also the name of the Collection to which this new item belongs. Afer you do this, fields will appear in the main area. You can upload a featured image, upload a Tear Sheet PDF, add a description (text that goes in the left column), add details (text that goes in the right column), and add as many images as you want. Once you upload images, you can drag to reorder them. Also, only images that are uploaded in the “Images” area (not the “Featured Image” area) show up on the product’s page. If you want a picture to show up both places, you need to put it in both places. One other note: in the “Details” section, you should make sure to put each detail after an em dash (—). If you want something (like measurements) to show up in the monospace/typewriter font, you should make it bold here.

3) Reordering collections

To reorder your collections, go to “Pages” and click “Tree View” in the submenu. Click the small arrow to the left of “Collections” Then simply drag and reorder the collection titles here.

Press

To upload a new press item,  go to “Posts” and click “Add new” in the submenu. Enter the title of the press item. Then, from the “Categories” section of the right menu, check the box “Press”. After you do this, fields will appear in the main area. Fill in the required content areas and press the blue “Publish” button when you’re done.

News

The news section is running on Tumblr. Log into Tumblr to edit it. http://bannerfurniture.tumblr.com is the URL.

Contact

The Contact section is similar to the Story section. To edit it, go to “Pages”, then “Contact”.

Loading…

You may have noticed that there are a few different words in the place of the typical “Loading…” message. To edit these words, go to “Pages” and edit the “Home” page. You will see a list of “Loading Verbs”.

Creating a basic page

To create a new page (for supplemental content, etc.), go to “Pages” and select “Add new” in the submenu. Enter the page title and then, in the “Page Attributes” section of the right menu, select “Template – Two Column” as the Template from the second dropdown. Then fields will appear. (Just so you know, adding a new page won’t make it appear in the main menu. If you want it to be part of the site in some way, I would suggest linking it from a main section of your site.)
